Oxfam Boutique – Durham

Oxfam Boutique – 18 Elvet Bridge, Durham, DH1 3AD

I have always lived in County Durham up until a few years ago when I met my partner and moved to Newcatle with him for a few years. I recently moved back to Durham at the end of last year with my partner and our son and although I used to spend almost every day in the centre, it feels like a brand new city again! So much has actually changed and I feel like I have had very little time since moving to have a good look around. So in saying that I decided to google the shops in the centre and see if anything new popped up. I totally wasn’t expecting what I was about to discover. I saw a photo of the front of a very cute looking boutique type store and upon close inspection I saw it was an Oxfam charity shop – with a difference. The shop was called Oxfam boutique and although it was a charity shop it was like walking in to some quirky vintage/fashion clothing store. Many items have been created by a team of volunteers who reinvent and customise donated stock: unique fashion gems which you can be sure have been made with love. In addition to their reinvented range, they also stock Junky Styling, remade bags by Laura Queening, silver jewellery by Wright & Teague and Oxfam’s new fairtrade range of jewellery and giftware.

I am a big fan of buying second hand and buying clothes/accessories on ebay, because of course you can really bag some gorgeous bargains or one of a kind items. So this store was like stepping in to an ebay store. The difference being you could actually view and try on the items before buying them!

Unfortunately I only had chance to have a quick pop in and therefore had to leave empty handed due to running late for something. However I fully intend on heading back to the store very soon, with a better camera and I will be buying an outfit from the store that I will of course blog about. The only problem with stores like these is that you see items you love that aren’t in your size, with everything being generally one off items. However rummaging through the various different clothes to find some gorgeous items in your size is all part of the fun, and there is plenty to choose from!

So keep an eye out for plenty more blogs on this little gem of a store!
